Residency: Camera Obscura Art Lab Studio Residency, Santa Monica, CA

The City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division seeks proposals from artists and artisans living in Los Angeles County for a studio residency spanning fourteen weeks, from January 4th to April 12th, 2017 at the Camera Obscura Art Lab in Palisades Park, Santa Monica. This residency offers artists a glass-walled studio with a spectacular ocean view in an iconic midcentury park building overlooking the Santa Monica Pier, four blocks away from the terminus of the Expo line. The City seeks artists whose work offers opportunity for sharing with the public through example and instruction. All disciplines and mediums will be considered. An honorarium of $1500 and use of the facility for a final exhibit/presentation is offered to the successful applicant. Notification of the selected resident will take place by early November, 2016.

Residency Opportunity: Grand Central Art Center

Deadline: November 13, 2015

PROJECT SUMMARY

Community Engagement has partnered with California State University at Fullerton’s Grand Central Art Center (GCAC) to enlist community-driven creatives* to respond to a call for proposals. 

*Creatives can be defined as community engagement leaders, artists, architects, urban community planners, etc. whose interests are in creating collaborative efforts promoting positive individual and community change. 

Specifically, the Creatives selected will be awarded a one-year opportunity to engage the residents of one of three low-income housing communities in Santa Ana, Calif. and Phoenix, Ariz. to ignite social change through sustainable practices and programs. The Creatives selected, individual and or collective groups, will be given housing (or a housing stipend), a working stipend, and a budget to execute their projects.

2015 Writer's Residency: Annenberg Community Beach House

Deadline: Thursday, October 23, 2014, received in office by 5:00pm   

The City of Santa Monica, Cultural Affairs Division, seeks proposals from writers of fiction, poetry, plays, and screenplays living in Los Angeles County for the Writer’s Residency Program at the Annenberg Community Beach House. The Writer’s Residency Program offers writers a private office in the historic Marion Davies Guest House for six weeks between Tuesday, January 13 and Tuesday, February 17, 2015 to complete a work-in-progress.

Studio Residency: Santa Monica

 The City of Santa Monica, Cultural Affairs Division, seeks proposals from artists and artisans living in Los Angeles County for a Studio Residency at 1450 Ocean, the Camera Obscura building in Palisades Park, Santa Monica. This Studio Residency offers shared multipurpose space with a spectacular ocean view in an iconic midcentury park building overlooking the Pier, from Tuesday, January 6 to Tuesday, March 3, 2015. The City is particularly interested in a letterpress or fine art printer who would be interested in temporarily relocating their press to the center. However all mediums will be considered.

Residency Opportunity: Lighthouse Works

Fully Funded Artist Residencies at The Lighthouse Works
The Lighthouse Works provides fellows with housing, food, studio space, a $250 travel allowance and an artist stipend of $1,500. Fellowships are six weeks in length and occur year-round. Fellowships are awarded through an application and juried selection process. Past fellows inlude Maya Hayuk, Meredith James, Jacques Louis Vidal and Matthew Fischer. Apply by October 1st to be considered for the Spring Fellowship, January 1st – February 1st, 2015 for Summer and Fall Fellowships.

  •  (Stuttgart, Germany) is a public-law foundation that offers an interdisciplinary and international fellowship program for artists and scientists. This year the program will grant 70 residency fellowships running from three to twelve months. International artists, writers, musicians, performers, and new media artists are encouraged to apply.   • MMCA Residency Changdong + Goyang (Seoul, Korea) is now accepting applications for the 2015 International Artist Residency Program. Artists of any discipline, from countries outside of Korea, can apply for three to six-month residencies offered through the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.
