Crew for upcoming 2017/18 performances. Performance locations include
Culver City, West Hollywood, Glendale, Pasadena, San Bernardino, San Pedro
and downtown LA.

Site/Stage Manager Duties Include:

- Point person for venue communications
- Coordinating load in and load out of equipment
- Making sure that the director, cast and crew have everything they need
to make the production run smoothly
- Working with designers to arrange costume fittings, set designs,
sound, lighting and props
- Keeping a record (the Prompt Script or Book) of any changes in the
production – sets, lighting, sound, costumes and props
- Managing the crew and cast during performances
- Giving cues to dancers, lighting and sound technicians
- Supervising the setting up and taking down of the set and equipment
before and after the performance

Tech Crew Duties Include:

- Assist with load in and load out of equipment
- Assist Programs Director, Site/Stage Manager, Lighting Designer and
Sound Technician as needed
- Will be lifting heavy equipment

The Center for the Arts includes the 450-seat Smothers Theatre, the

The Publicity and Marketing Manager publicizes, markets, and promotes
performances and exhibitions at the Center for the Arts, securing an
audience of more than 50,000 people each year for artistic engagement at
Pepperdine. In addition to providing publicity support for professional
presentations, the Publicity Manager also provides significant design and
editing support for Fine Arts division events and performances.

The person in this position must have excellent writing skills as well as
strong design skills. Each day, the person in this position will support a
myriad of events and performances at the Center for the Arts and the Fine
Arts division by creating and disseminating brochures, calendars, ads,
posters, press release, and programs. The person must be a self-starter,
and able to track timelines and schedules for a variety of events each year.

Residency: The Main Museum has five new studio spaces available (Los Angeles)

The Main Museum in downtown Los Angeles will open five new studio spaces in January 2018 for our artist-in-residence program. With studios located onsite at the museum and monthly honoraria offered to participating artists, our expanded interdisciplinary residency program, which formalizes facets of the current program, furthers The Main's central mission of supporting practicing Los Angeles-based artists.

A variety of disciplines are accepted for the program, which can last anywhere from three to nine months. Artists are invited to use the space as they wish, with no expectation of producing new work, although some residencies may result in exhibitions or public programs.

Applications are accepted now through October 2, 2017 for residencies beginning in January 2018.

REDCAT, the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater and Gallery, seeks Gallery Attendant Staff for its experimental 3000 sq ft space. Located in downtown Los Angeles and part of the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex, REDCAT is an interdisciplinary arts center presenting influential new works in the performing, visual and media arts. 

REDCAT is an initiative of the California Institute of the Arts, which offers programs leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and undergraduate and advanced certificates in art, critical studies, dance, film/video, music, and theater.

The Gallery Attendant reports to the Gallery Director and/or Assistant Curator and:

  • Monitors artwork in the gallery and ensures its safety and security;
  • Communicates with the public and answers questions about gallery exhibitions and programs;
  • Generates logs of visitors and monitors appropriate gallery behavior; 
  • Serves as an articulate spokesperson for REDCAT;

The City of San Jose Public Art Program (SJPA) is creating a Roster of Pre-Qualified Artists. The purpose of the Roster is to streamline the artist selection process for a range of upcoming mural projects. Major Job Responsibilities:

COUNCIL SUPPORT

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Getty Museum, the Trust Development Office and the members of the Museum's Councils.
  • Assist the Development Office with the annual Museum Council dues renewal process.

Call for Proposals: Maiden LA wants the thing you do (Los Angeles)

MAIDEN LA is an inclusive and expansive county-wide survey of art happenings throughout the month of August 2017. The program encourages self-initiation, the use of alternative spaces, and the consideration of the city as a platform for generative discourse and exchange. Maiden LA is an egalitarian program that aims to create an open forum for artists, collectives, curators, galleries, museums, et cetera, to connect and share.

MAIDEN LA--a playful anagram and homophone of ‘Made in LA’--is a call to assemble and host open studios, group shows, performances, or any variety of self-initiated projects in both traditional and unconventional spaces during the month of August.

Artists, organizers, and self-started spaces are encouraged to host an event anytime during the month, and to submit project details for inclusion in an online directory and interactive map. There will also be a limited edition fold-out map that will act as a physical guide to the network.

Location/Context History

The Asian American Monument Committee of New Mexico requests artists or artists’ teams to submit qualifications for designing a public art sculpture budgeted for $265,000 in honor of the landmark civil rights ruling from Territory v Yee Shun (1882) which affirmed the competency of Chinese Americans to testify in court and have their testimony accepted.  For additional information on the history of the case, email namasland@bernco.gov Successful applicants will demonstrate:

  1. Cultural competency

  2.  An understanding of this court case and why it is still relevant to all Americans today. 

  3. A broad history of Chinese Americans using the judicial system to advance and protect civil rights

  4. Relevance to all Americans today.

Site:

The site for the sculpture is the urban environment in downtown Albuquerque at the Second Judicial District Courthouse in Albuquerque New Mexico at 400 Lomas Blvd NW, 87102.  The sculpture will be located on the west side of the court house.  (See attached photos.)

Project Intent/Theme:

The intent of this sculpture is to commemorate the landmark historic Chinese American civil rights ruling, Territory of New Mexico v. Yee Shun (1882).  This monument also honors the citizens and the legal system of New Mexico which recognizes that ‘justice and liberty for all’ is a principle for all ages and people. The sculpture should reflect the tenacity of the human spirit and speak to all people – not just Asian Americans, but could include elements of Asian American Culture. 

Media/Style/Size:

The committee seeks artists or artist teams who are proficient in large scale abstract sculpture who can evoke a contemplative and inviting space with their designs.  The size of the artwork should be proportionate to the scale of the courthouse and sidewalk and address the interactive and pedestrian nature of the location. Public safety is a concern. The artwork should not pose a threat of injury of any persons who may come in contact with the piece.

Project Funds:

$265,000 available to commission a work of art on the west side of the Second Judicial Courthouse - $255,000 from the New Mexico State Legislature and $10,000 from the City of Albuquerque.  A stipend of $2,000 will be provided to each of the three finalists to present their designs in person in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Timeframe:

The call is open for 60 days, three finalists will have 60 days to prepare their designs before presenting to the Asian American Monument Committee and the community in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Music Tastes Good is an eclectic two-day music and food festival, taking place at an outdoor location in downtown Long Beach, CA on Saturday, September 30th & Sunday, October 1st. Inspired by our nation’s shipping ports, and more specifically, the Port of Long Beach, this year’s event draws heavily on cultural exchange and the import and export of sounds, flavors, and ideas.

The festival is looking for projects that:

  1. Provide high impact with exceptional and visionary work.
  2. Engage community through an artist-initiated process.
  3. Exhibit cultural experimentation and innovation.

Ideal projects will embody one or both of the overarching and intertwined festival themes of musical performance and culinary arts.

All media is accepted. This includes, but is not limited to, painting, photography, sculpture, light projection, video, and all two-dimensional and three-dimensional work, new-media and any non-traditional media. I was part of a recent huddle in Los Angeles. It was an amazing experience to feel like we aren’t alone in our thinking about the current political climate. We talked about what is going on in our country and what we could do to make a difference.

This is one of my next steps. I am curating a mail art show at Brainworks gallery in August 2017.

Residency: The Studios of Key West has a month-long, no-cost program up (Florida)

The Studios of Key West (Key West, FL - United States) offers no-cost, month-long residencies to visual artists, writers, composers, performers and interdisciplinary artists from around the world. Known for blue skies, open water and mangrove islands - and 70 degree days in winter - Key West is removed from the American mainland by 120 miles of bridges and small islands. Residency: Fully Funded one-month residency up for photographers (Colorado)

Elsewhere Studios (Paonia, CO - United States) is offering a one-month fully-funded residency for a photographer working in ME (Multiple Exposure) or ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) - or other experimental techniques. The residency will take place in the last trimester of 2017 (September, October, November, or December). Ox-Bow’s Artist-in-Residence program, located in Saugatuck, MI, offers artists and writers the time, space, and community to encourage growth and experimentation in their practice. During the fall residents are given the time, solitude, and focus often unavailable to so many working artists.

At Ox-Bow, artists can enjoy 24-hour access to their studios, and an inspirational setting, free from the expectations of commercial and academic demands. During the fall season, Artists-in-Residence have the opportunity to work in studios not available during the summer session. The fall is an ideal time for writers to apply as there are studios dedicated specifically to them. It’s also a great time to propose group or collaborative work. The residency is open to all visual art disciplines and writers.

The residency provides:
• Studio (access to ceramic, printmaking, and painting studios—if you would like access to these facilities make sure this is clearly stated in your application)
• Private room
• Meals
• A community of engaged artists
• Opportunities to share work: slide presentations and/or readings
